WalterFedy, as part of a multidisciplinary team led by MJMA, is delivering civil engineering services for a new Recreation Complex and integrated library located in the Southpoint subdivision—a rapidly growing neighbourhood anticipated to house 26,500 residents. Designed to serve as a vibrant, multi-generational hub, the facility will provide a wide range of recreational, educational, and cultural amenities, including aquatics, gymnasiums, fitness spaces, community programming, and an adjacent community park. Additionally, the complex will function as a critical disaster relief center and a secondary Emergency Operations Centre (EOC), enhancing community resilience.

The project is targeting LEED Gold certification, with aspirations for Net-Zero Carbon performance through the integration of climate-resilient design strategies. A robust governance framework, including multiple committees and teams, oversees each project phase—planning through to operation. Community engagement has played a central role, with various public consultation events informing the design process.

WalterFedy’s civil team completed the site’s grading and servicing design, which included extending watermain and sanitary services from the property line to the facility, storm sewer design, and stormwater management systems. The stormwater strategy incorporated clean roof runoff infiltration to meet groundwater recharge targets established in the subdivision’s Environmental Impact Study (EIS). Grading design prioritized barrier-free access across all paved and landscaped areas, supporting equitable and inclusive use of the site.
