As part of a multidisciplinary team led by MJMA, WalterFedy provided civil engineering services for the new Township-Wide Recreation Complex, now known as the Zancor Centre.
Designed to serve as a central hub for community engagement and athletic activity, the Zancor Centre features a wide range of amenities tailored to diverse interests and needs. The aquatics centre includes a six-lane lap pool and a leisure pool, accommodating both competitive swimmers and recreational users. Two NHL-sized ice rinks with spectator seating make the facility a premier destination for ice hockey and other ice sports.
For indoor training and fitness, the Centre offers an artificial turf fieldhouse with a running track, supporting year-round use for various sports. A multi-use community space and fully accessible universal washrooms and changerooms ensure the facility is inclusive and user-friendly for all visitors.
Outdoor amenities include a large central courtyard with direct access to social and community rooms—an ideal setting for gatherings and events. Future development plans include trail connections to the Oak Ridges Moraine, promoting outdoor recreation such as hiking and cycling, as well as new outdoor sports fields to further expand the site’s recreational offerings.
WalterFedy’s civil design scope included stormwater management with controlled discharge to an existing roadside ditch, grading for parking areas, landscaped green spaces, and the central courtyard, as well as the extension of water and sanitary services from the property line to the building. The design also carefully preserved an on-site area with archaeological significance, which was protected in its undisturbed natural state.
