WalterFedy provided full-service architecture and engineering for the design and development of a new employee multi-use recreational and office space in Mississauga, Ontario. Serving as the prime consultant, WalterFedy guided the project from concept through completion.

The 22,880 SF building features a 300-seat multi-purpose hall, two boardrooms, several private offices, a gym, two commercial kitchens, a lounge, a bar, and supporting service spaces. The surrounding grounds are thoughtfully designed with landscape architecture principles, incorporating a variety of native plant species. Outdoor amenities include two beach volleyball courts, two multi-purpose sports courts (one convertible to an ice rink in winter), a picnic and BBQ area, an accessible playground, and a pool and splash pad.

WalterFedy’s Energy and Carbon Solutions team conducted an energy and carbon analysis early in the design process to identify opportunities to lower energy use and carbon emissions through both passive and active strategies. While the project did not pursue formal LEED certification, it has been designed to meet LEED Gold standards.

Sustainability measures include optimizing building orientation for year-round solar gain, incorporating high-performance building envelope insulation, and using HVAC systems and controls that reduce energy demand. Intelligent control systems for both HVAC and lighting further support energy efficiency. These strategies were summarized into clear decision-making metrics, enabling the project team to select an optimal design approach with a strong emphasis on energy performance.
