As part of Infrastructure Ontario’s Accelerated Build Pilot Program, a new 320-bed long-term care facility was developed at Humber River Hospital’s Finch Campus in North York. The program was designed to address Ontario’s urgent need for long-term care spaces by leveraging hospital-owned land, rapid procurement, and modular construction, significantly reducing project timelines compared to traditional developments. The new facility provides a modern, comfortable, and safe environment for seniors, featuring private or semi-private bedrooms, lounge areas, dining rooms, terraces, and a 100% fresh air supply system. It meets the latest long-term care design standards, ensuring a high quality of life for its residents.
WalterFedy provided civil engineering services to the EllisDon-led team, supporting the transformation of an existing parking lot into a six-storey long-term care home. Our team contributed through site design engineering services, including site servicing, stormwater management, comprehensive provincial and municipal approvals, construction inspection services during construction and final certifications for the facility to ensure compliance with regulatory and performance standards. By integrating a collaborative approach to approvals with the City of Toronto, use of innovative construction methods and implementation of strategic engineering solutions, the project successfully delivered a much-needed long term care facility while enhancing the surrounding community.
