The University of Waterloo Daycare Project provided a new facility to replace three current daycare facilities within the campus.
This new building accommodates 160 children regularly and an additional 30 school-age children as required when school is not in session. The new daycare centre is a modern facility that provides maximum functionality for parents and caregivers, yet was designed with the child in mind with an emphasis on play, fun, and discovery. The exterior of the building is bright and fresh with light coloured brick and blue tinted windows arranged in a playful pattern.
Careful attention was paid to discovery moments including window location and effect, and child-focused design elements at the main entrance such as the wood wall feature which off ers a variety of “peek through” points.
