Inside a 19th century barrel warehouse for the Seagram Distillery, are new offices for Shopify’s expansion in the Waterloo Region. The interior environment reflects the culture of a fast-growing e-commerce business. Teams are set up in semi-enclosed pods that create a sense of community while maintaining connection to the entire office. Meeting spaces of various sizes facilitate collaboration across a broad spectrum of function. The town hall, featuring a 9’x16’ video wall, serves as a multi-purpose space for employees to gather for meals, learning and enables Shopify to host large public events.
WalterFedy provided end-to-end design services to deliver this project on an accelerated schedule. Our in-house team performed architectural, interior design, structural, mechanical and electrical engineering, and construction administration. With the firm’s Energy Management Solutions, energy audit and lighting retrofit work was integrated into the overall project, enabling Shopify to reduce annual energy consumption by 50,000 watts and receive a Save on Energy rebate from the local utility. To furnish the new spaces to suit Shopify’s unique work culture, collaborating closely with the end user and our strategic partners, furniture was sourced and procured by WalterFedy.
