WalterFedy is providing architectural and engineering services to Union Gas to design a new energy plant facility at their Chatham head office. Union Gas had identified that the existing aging facility and infrastructure was no longer effectively meeting their needs and that a new facility would be both cost beneficial and improve their office’s resilience to risk. The critical nature of the services Union Gas provides made this project especially critical.
At the outset of the project, Union Gas identified their desire to relocate the powerhouse from its existing location to a more prominent spot on the site to act as a showcase piece. Phase 1 of the project consisted of construction of the building itself, which features eye catching panelling, finishes, and architectural features. Phase 2 includes installation of the mechanical equipment, which includes a combined heat and power plant with a chilling and cooling tower. The complete facility will demonstrate the ways natural gas and cogeneration can work together, and will also provide educational opportunities by allowing people to walk around the equipment to get a good sense of the interplay between the components and view the inner workings of the mechanical system.
