Halton Healthcare worked with Infrastructure Ontario to relocate and expand the Oakville hospital. The goal was to create a modern, state-of-the-art facility that is patient and family-focused, and fosters a supportive and safe environment for employees, visitors, and patients.


WalterFedy provided civil engineering services for this project, in concert with multiple partners working on other aspects of the design and construction of this new facility. The facility was constructed on a 22 hectare green field site and includes a multi-level parking structure. Our civil team’s work included site servicing, grading, and storm water management design, as well as inspection and contract administration, coordination with the many partnering firms and disciplines involved in the project, and acquiring approvals from the Town of Oakville and Halton Region.


In support of the site plan, we designed Western Road from Dundas Street to the future Burnhamthorpe Road, as well as Third Line from Dundas Street to the future Burnhamthorpe Road. Our design included storm and sanitary sewer design, watermain and surface works, and design of a 2,400mm diameter trunk sanitary sewer from Dundas street to the future Burnhamthorpe Road.


As part of the scope of services, we prepared an Environmental Implementation Report & Functional Servicing Study (EIR/FSS). The scope of work included determining the contributing areas and modeling the stormwater flows for all major storms and on a continuous basis using a 60 year data set. The result was the design of an on-site detention basin of 1.8 ha and two external regional detention basins of 2.8 and 3.8 ha, all designed to control downstream flows to support future development in the Taplow and Glen Oak watersheds. Particular consideration was given to the calculation of the outlet flows using the continuous modeling to ensure that downstream capacities and erosion thresholds were not exceeded.
