BIM Manager

You will focus on leading and executing on our strategy of Building Information Modelling (BIM) in the Architecture and Engineering practices of our business in both Kitchener and Hamilton.  You will be responsible to develop BIM processes and standards, and to ensure the team has the training to execute projects using BIM moving forwards, enhancing our offerings to our clients, and strengthening our team. Currently at WalterFedy we are predominantly using the Autodesk family of software for BIM.

What We Need:

  • Minimum if 5 years of experience in a design and/or production environment using Autodesk Revit (experience in a multi-discipline design/production environment or more than 5 years experience will be seen as an asset)
  • Must have an in-depth working knowledge of Revit with emphasis on multi-discipline project setup, content creation, template and standards development and enforcement
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Must have demonstrated leadership experience.
  • Ability to use time productively, maximize efficiency, and meet challenging work goals
  • Ability to identify additional needs and proactively come up with solutions and manage priorities with minimal guidance
  • Must possess and maintain exceptional work ethic as well as uphold company values and demand the highest standard of conduct from self and others
  • Must be a self-starter and possess the drive to pursue continued advancements in BIM as developments become available
  • Possess the ability to lead multi-discipline BIM teams, work well as part of a team and work independently
  • Must be organized and methodical
  • Ability to travel between Kitchener and Hamilton

 

What You Will Do:

  • Leadership & Change Management:
    • Responsible for identifying and setting priorities for the BIM Leadership Team.
    • Responsible for engaging input from stakeholders throughout the standards/workflow development phase.
    • Responsible for collaborating with team leaders and business unit leaders to keep them informed on changes underway.
    • Responsible for communication rollout strategy and execution for the implementation of new BIM standards and/or processes.
  • Software:
    • Manage software products including but not limited to incorporating new version releases and customization of the product
    • Manage the implementation in conjunction with out IT department of supporting software for BIM
    • Evaluate and stay informed on new developments and best practices in BIM related software and technologies
    • Stay informed on other BIM related software and how they integrate with Revit
    • Evaluate add-ins for implementation or use
  • Standards:
    • Responsible for overseeing and coordinating BIM standards development, implementation, and enforcement for WalterFedy
    • Provide support for plotting and electronic file submissions
    • Automate routines in BIM to support standards and productivity
    • Provide quality control for completeness and adherence to company standards
    • Responsible for overseeing the development and enforcement of BIM documentation and workflow process standards
    • Train and oversee the day-to-day activities of the Revit teams to ensure BIM standards are maintained
  • Management:
    • Create written technology evaluations and budgets for future technology adoption that aligns with the corporate goals
    • Chair the WalterFedy BIM committee
    • Report on the company’s BIM implementation current and projected state to COO/and or management team
    • Create upgrade and development strategies for the BIM implementation effort in collaboration with the Architectural and Engineering Business Unit Leaders. These include:
      • Assess: evaluate current workflow, strategies, budgets, projects, staffing, etc.
      • Plan: create a plan for implementation. Who are the team members, what is the project, what are the goals, etc.
      • Confirm: be able to demonstrate BIM success by evaluating goals that were established in the Assess Phase
    • Support:
      • Provide hardware and network support as it relates to BIM production
      • Support the BIM technology needs of all offices
      • Troubleshoot problems
      • Liaison with national vendors and our internal IT/IS support staff
    • Training:
      • Internal Training: provide Revit Fundamental and Intermediate training to staff
      • Provide technical orientation to new hires regarding BIM tools
      • Participate in interviews to assess candidate skills in BIM
      • Attend conferences, seminars, and workshops for BIM; bringing back learning and disseminating the information to appropriate teams
    • Project Interface:
      • Support project standards coordination with client’s requirements
      • Assist project teams in BIM project setup/setup BIM model for each discipline
      • Create Revit families in response to project needs
      • Help resolve BIM design issues
      • Manage and distribute coordinated digital documents to the project team
      • Coordinate needed hardware upgrades with IT
      • Communicate with sub-contractors to receive, coordinate and update all electronic models
      • Responsible to link BIM to the project construction phase for submittals, construction models, shop drawings and schedules
      • Assist on project work as required – modeling and detailing
      • Assist with WalterFedy Revit committee to create Revit families and update WalterFedy template
      • Meet with customers to review requirements prior to initial model setup
      • Receive model updates from customer/outside consultant and update internal model
      • Evaluate 3rd party families/content for internal use
      • Maintain company library of approved BIM families and content
    • Marketing of BIM services:
      • Web, literature, interviews, presenting at relevant client focused conferences
      • Future BIM/Revit Industry initiatives and developments
      • Identify trends and business opportunities relating to BIM, evaluate and make recommendations regarding BIM software
    • Liaison for BIM process with:
      • Future planning for potential uses of BIM
      • Sustainable Design
      • Planning
      • 3D Renderings
      • Facilities Management
      • Cost Estimating
      • Specification Management
      • Integrated Project Delivery
      • Shadow studies
