Role Overview

As a member of the WalterFedy Structural team, the Structural Project Engineer will provide technical leadership for structural aspects of single and multi-disciplinary projects while successfully managing project resources and schedules, and maintaining a high standard of quality. The successful candidate will be comfortable interacting with project teams and clients, and to represent the Mission, Vision and Values of WalterFedy.  This role provides the opportunity to develop your technical and business skillset, and requires a commitment to providing clients with practical, creative solutions.

What you will do
  • Engineering administration function, the directing of professional engineers and technical staff, and the direction of engineering and design work on projects of various sizes and durations.  May also function as a mentor, consultant or specialist recognized as an authority in structural engineering.
  • Develop various project scopes while proactively identifying and responding to changes with team members and PMs.
  • Develop structural designs, drawings and specifications independently, or as part of a team of engineers.
  • Provide technical mentorship to advancing structural engineers.
  • Support construction by performing compliance inspections, resolving construction problems related to structural design, and coordinating with clients and contractors.
  • Coordinate and schedule production activities and quality assurance reviews.
  • Write technical reports.
  • Manage project schedules.
  • Build client relationships with a focus on growing the structural team in Hamilton.

 

What we need
  • Licensed member of P.E.O;
  • Minimum 8+ years of experience in AEC consulting engineering environment on multidisciplinary projects; minimum 2 years in SW Ontario market preferred
  • Experience leading design teams
  • Knowledge and experience in the Ontario Building Code and design of structural systems such as Structural Steel, Reinforced Concrete, Masonry, and Timber buildings.
  • Knowledge and/or experience in and use of structural software such as ETABS, SAFE and RISA;
  • Experience with projects in the institutional, industrial, health care and commercial sectors
  • Strong management and leadership skills.
  • Strong ability to engage new and existing external clients to build, maintain and develop relationships with experience as a prime consultant as well as a sub-consultant working with Architects desirable
  • Strong communication and presentation skills to interact with project teams.
  • Strong network of contacts including clients, especially in the private sector;
  • A commitment to providing exceptional client service and developing technical expertise to deliver practical, creative solutions is essential.

Working Conditions and Safety

Standard hours are Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m., and some overtime hours may be required from time to time. Ability to travel away from the office is required to assist and attend on-site project meetings.
