Role at a Glance

WalterFedy is seeking a seasoned Project Controller to work with our integrated team at our office in Kitchener. Reporting to the Financial Controller, you will provide financial consultation to program and project managers for the effective management and cost control of their various projects.

This role is perfect for someone with an entrepreneurial spirit with a high level of initiative. This position is a bridge between the operational and financial functions of the organization and, as such, would suit individuals who have demonstrated ownership and accountability for delivering results in a matrixed environment or working as a business partner to operational functions to jointly drive organizational success.

What You Will Do

  • Build strong relationships and serve as a trusted advisor to our internal business partners
  • Identify, evaluate, and communicate financial risks and contingency planning with the project managers
  • Play a lead role in designing and implementing the reporting systems, as well as the budgeting and planning processes
  • Report on project budgets and forecasts and include analysis of budget variances and overall project performance including revenue, cost, and profit margins
  • Participate in regular meetings with project managers and other stakeholders to present financial performance results and ensure forecast commitments are delivered
  • Ensure regular communication with project team and other stakeholders regarding program Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), current budget, actual cost and forecast to complete. Monitor, analyze and discuss discrepancies and recommend corrective actions to avoid/mitigate cost impacts and overruns
  • Prepare monthly project reports and provide commentary on the financial results
  • Provide relevant ad hoc reporting for senior stakeholders as requested
  • Review and assist in maintaining accurate revenue recognition
  • Build and maintain relationships with internal team members, including Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable to ensure collaboration
  • Optimize project cashflow by overseeing invoicing and collections activities
  • Review monthly billings and consultant invoices and reconcile against project budgets

What You Bring to the Table

  • University-level degree in Finance or Accounting along with Professional Accounting Designation (CA,CMA,CGA,CPA)
  • 10 - 15 years of related experience; Minimum 5+ years in a Senior Manager position
  • Previous experience in a consulting engineering or architecture environment is considered an asset
  • Advanced knowledge of Excel with the ability to work consistently with advanced functions to interpret and analyze large volumes of data
  • Technical expert in Excel and SQL - xLookups, Pivot Tables, and database queries
  • Experience with Deltek Vision is considered an asset
  • Ability to prioritize workload and work with changing priorities
  • Team-orientated and collaborative
  • Ability to anticipate needed actions; Exercise initiative within scope of responsibilities
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
