Role Overview

You will focus on leading the mechanical design portion of projects of various size and scope on a fully integrated team. Your role will include developing the scope of work, managing engineering budgets and schedules, and leading the technical direction of the mechanical design. It will involve coordinating with design team members, corresponding directly with clients and suppliers, performing engineering calculations and preparing and reviewing technical reports. 


You will have the opportunity to work on exciting local projects. Examples of projects that we are really proud to have in our portfolio include the Waterloo Region Museum and the Kitchener Public Library expansion.

What You Will Do

 

  • Complete design and calculations of HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, and controls for large and mid-sized projects
  • Coordinate and communicate with clients on scope and development of project
  • Coordinate with equipment suppliers, contractors, and other design disciplines
  • Perform site surveys and site assessments, field reviews and address coordination questions throughout construction
  • Provide detailed mechanical capital cost estimates
  • Coordinate the preparation of drawing documentation and prepare specifications to supplement drawings in project bid packages
  • Complete technical analysis and preparation of corresponding reports

 

What We Need

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering with a focus on Mechanical Engineering
  • Fluent in Mandarin (written and spoken) using technical vocabulary (e.g.  completion of post-secondary studies in Mandarin and/or engineering work experience using Mandarin)
  • 5+ years of experience in designing mechanical systems for projects pertaining to healthcare, institutional, commercial and/or industrial sector
  • Licensed member of PEO (P.Eng) or eligible for licensure
  • Working knowledge of Ontario Building Code, ASHRAE, NFPA, and other relevant codes

Working Conditions and Safety 

Standard hours are Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m., and some overtime hours may be required from time to time. The ability to travel away from the office is required to assist and attend on-site project meetings.
