60-Year History

1951

Herman K. Walter and Bill Roberts form a small mechanical and electrical engineering firm in Kitchener – beginning a 60-year legacy of innovative solutions and a purposeful growth strategy of evolving to meet customer challenges.

1959

Walter, Fedy and Associates enjoys wide influence, serving customers from Kitchener to Hamilton and throughout Southwestern Ontario.

1968

The firm moves to a new head office at 546 Belmont Avenue in Kitchener.

1969

The firm meets customers’ needs for integrated engineering design by merging with structural and municipal consulting firm McCargar and HachbornWalter, Fedy, McCargar, Hachborn launches into the arena of complex facility design.

1973

Demonstrating an understanding of marketplace demands, the firm adds architectural services to become Horton & Ball, Walter, Fedy, McCargar, Hachborn. The addition of architectural services enhances the firm’s integrated nature and meets customer requirements for single-source design solutions.

1974

Responding to industry demand, the firm inaugurates a Project and Construction Management division.

1991

Following years of work throughout Ontario and North America, the firm becomes The Walter Fedy Partnership (TWFP). The new name reflects the firm’s historical roots and a commitment to collaborative working partnerships with customers.

1993

After helping customers to determine the cause of building problems such as equipment failure and fire damage, TWFP formally establishes an Investigative Engineering division.

1996

To assist customers in operating within an ever-increasing regulatory environment, TWFP offers environmental engineering, hydrogoelogy and land-use redevelopment services through an alliance with Frontline Environmental Management.

1997

To better serve Canadian customers expanding south of the border, TWFP enters the United States and opens The Walter Fedy Group, Inc. in Lakeland, Florida.

1997

TWFP furthers its full service commitment to customers and rounds out its land development capabilities by establishing a Landscape Architecture and Natural Ecology division.

2001

The Walter Fedy Partnership celebrates its 50th anniversary while continuing to evolve to meet our customers’ changing business challenges

2002

TWFP adds Pre-Start Health and Safety Review Services to better serve our industrial customers, and establishes Integrated Risk Management Solutions through our alliance with Frontline Environmental Management’s Infection Control Services, and a working alliance with Acute Environmental Services.

2006

TWFP realigns its services, creating the Integrated Design Studio, Engineering Services Group, and Construction Services Group. Engineering Services houses a number of divisions: Building Engineering, Automotive, Civil Engineering, Commissioning, Investigative Engineering, and Industrial Safety Services.

2009

While TWFP’s project schedule remains busy during the economic downturn, market realities lead to the merging of the Automotive and Building Engineering divisions and suspension of The Walter Fedy Group’s Florida operations.

2011

WalterFedy turns 60! With this milestone comes a new brand and a new head office at 675 Queen Street South in Kitchener, now home to all WalterFedy employees.
