We are delighted to announce that WalterFedy has placed second in the Region (for organizations with 101-500 employees) for participation in Commuter Challenge Week (June 3-9). From employees who walked upwards of an hour to get to work, to those who carpooled to site, to one employee who biked to Stratford and back in order to participate, our office was bursting with staff committed to the environment and determined to “walk the walk”.
Sustainability is a top priority at WalterFedy both in our project-based work and in our day-to-day activities. All our endeavors are guided by what we call our Triple Bottom Line philosophy which measures success across three avenues: Financial Stability, Community Building, and Environmental Responsibility. With 15 LEED® AP certified staff in-house and a focus on pursuing environmentally responsible choices for our customers, WalterFedy employees are also committed to making sustainable choices in their everyday lives. So, for us, recognition that we’re on the right path, through a strong performance in the Region of Waterloo’s Commuter Challenge Week, is especially meaningful.
Our commitment to the environment was recognized earlier this year when we were awarded the Rookie of the Year award at Sustainable Waterloo Region’s Evening of Recognition. As members of Sustainable Waterloo’s Regional Carbon Initiative, WalterFedy is constantly exploring new and innovative ways to reduce its carbon footprint. In addition to designing and building our new home office on Queen Street South in Kitchener to LEED Silver certification for Commercial Interiors, we continue to explore environmentally sustainable practices such as instituting a composting program in-house, creating a Sustainable Advisory Committee to lead our sustainable efforts, and becoming members of TravelWise.
Here at WalterFedy we hope to continue to work towards reducing our carbon footprint and are encouraged by the tremendous community support and in-house incentives to be part of a sustainable solution.
