This role will provide you with an opportunity to develop as a Junior Engineer-in-Training – Electrical Engineering while also allowing you to work towards developing a unique skill set as an expert in integrated design.

Role Overview

The Junior EIT will be involved in a wide variety of projects within the Electrical Engineering team, and will have the opportunity to apply their technical expertise in a variety of areas.  Assignments could include assisting with electrical service load calculations, lighting design calculations and layout, selection of control and power distribution equipment, security and communication systems, assisting with Arc Flash studies, and the preparation of CAD drawings.  You will be responsible for working directly with clients to ensure their needs are understood and met. You will also be responsible for coordinating with other internal and external design team members as applicable.

 

You will have the opportunity to work on exciting local projects. Examples of projects that we are really proud to have in our portfolio include the uWaterloo Environment 3 Building, uWaterloo Douglas Wright Engineering Building Renovation, Waterloo Region Museum, and the Kitchener Public Library expansion.

What You Will Do

  • Assist in electrical systems design for codes and standards compliance including life safety (fire alarm, emergency/exit lighting) and resource conservation (lighting selection, lighting controls, mechanical equipment services).
  • Co-ordination of electrical and telecom service supply requirements with utility companies.
  • Complete calculations for electrical service load, lighting design and distribution systems.
  • Complete lighting design (indoor and outdoor) including fixture, lamp, ballast selection and lighting calculations to IES standards
  • Survey existing conditions as required for renovation projects.
  • Layout lighting fixtures on plans and demonstrate fundamental knowledge of lighting concepts.
  • Layout fire alarm devices, edit electrical specifications, and prepare one-line diagrams with input from Engineers.
  • Prepare design, technical or other reports as requested by customers.
  • Coordinate device locations, loads and circuitry with other disciplines.
  • Develop knowledge of the Ontario Building Code, Ontario Electrical Safety Code and other standards.
  • Work directly with the customers under guidance as required

 

What We Need

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering with a focus on Electrical Engineering.
  • Eligible to become a registered Engineering-in-Training (EIT) through PEO.
  • Co-op/internship experience in an engineering consulting firm.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast paced team environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.

Working Conditions and Safety

Standard hours are Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m., and some overtime hours may be required from time to time. Ability to travel away from the office is required to assist and attend on-site project meetings.

In this role, you will work within the company safety policies and procedures, and adhere to any applicable federal or provincial legislation.
