Role Overview

Reporting to the Civil Contract Admin and Field Review Team Leader, the Intermediate Civil Inspector/Designer is responsible for design of projects in early stages and inspection of projects throughout the final stages. Working with minimal direction from senior staff, the role requires effective completion of design and inspection of multiple complex projects throughout all stages of the project cycle. The self-driven incumbent requires excellent communication skills, refined design and inspection experience, as well as the ability to effectively manage work in a fast paced and demanding environment.

What We Need

  • College Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology.
  • Designation as a C.E.T. in Ontario or eligible applicant.
  • Minimum of 3 years of design and inspection experience in a consulting engineering or municipal environment, preferably in Southern Ontario. Experience working within the Region of Waterloo would be considered a definite asset.
  • Excellent knowledge of Canadian/Ontario and other relevant codes and standards.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, for interaction and correspondence with design team and customers, as well as contractors, residents and other project stakeholders.
  • Self-motivated and a team player.
  • Eager to learn and take on new challenges, with a strong work ethic and desire to succeed.
  • Knowledge of modern GPS and Total Station, topographic survey, construction lay out and levelling experience would be a strong asset.

What You Will Do

  • Assist project managers and designers with design and drafting of various municipal, subdivision, and site plan development projects.
  • Draft engineering plans using the AutoCAD and Civil3D (latest release).
  • Check and verify design drawings for conformance to specifications and design data.
  • Prepare reports and contract specifications.
  • Conduct site visits to verify site data and field review during and after construction.
  • Provide temporary and resident inspection of various civil engineering construction projects, ensuring contractors construct the projects in accordance with the requirements of the contract.
  • Liaise with the contractor, owner, residents, utility companies, local municipalities, and other external agencies throughout the construction period.
  • Contract administration including preparation of progress payments and inspection reports.
  • Assist with field survey activities.

Working Conditions and Safety

Time spent in this role will be both on site and in the office, depending on the needs of the project. Site inspection work offsite will include field review and verifying site data, and hours will vary based on project demands. Some overtime will be required. In this role you will work within the company safety policies and procedures, and adhere to any applicable federal or provincial legislation.
